Canary Wharf’s new Crossrail station will include a semi-open balcony where diners will be able to sit and look over the water, it was revealed today.
The six-storey building, due to open in May next year, three years before the station, will cover the platform area and will include shops, bars, restaurants and other leisure facilities.
Among the first places to open will be the Everyman Cinema — the first in east London — a Sports Bar and Grill and Poncho 8, a Mexican restaurant. When combined with the recent Jubilee Place shopping centre extension, the 115,000 sq ft development is one of the largest retail expansions being built in Britain.
Canary Wharf will be one of the largest Crossrail stations, with retail areas on four of the six floors, and a landscaped park, restaurant and community facility on the top floor, which will be covered by a timber lattice roof that will allow views over the dock.
